As far as I know maven is a very good tool for managing deployment, build, and more important - at least for me - for managing JAR dependencies. Just add this in pom. If your data is coming from a database, then it's probably easier to parse your strings into date objects inside the SQL query. SimpleDateFormat is great for parsing a Date into a String: Nov 24 - 5: I tried using the pom configuration for jar with dependencies, which is creating the jar along with dependencies manifest and dependency-jars folder beside the artifact. But, I also look forward to learning about One-Jar now as it seems it has a lot of valid features too.

Despite the fact that "complexity" isn't a good reason to learn somethingI wonder if it may be a reasonable approach to use Maven only to manage dependencies and to build fat Jars with Maven shade pluginso that I can include created artifacts as library in web projects.

That's not at all what you're attempting to do. Now when running mvn clean install, the jar file generated by maven does not contain lib folder. I think its configuration is easier. My real goal to achive is actually to convert a field from type string which includes a date yyyy-MM-dd to have it in a varibale form the datatype date.
